First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta Green Sanctuary Committee Meeting 12:45 p.m., Sunday, June 13, 2010 FUUSM Parlor, RE building Attending: Brad Bond, Jesse Hyde, Linda Dauber, John Brewer, Debra Miller, Karen Hunsaker, Shari Miller, Diana Bungard, Carolyn Waltzer, Jim Grecni, Sara Lamb, Mike & Adeline Bailey. Mike Bailey chaired the meeting. Confirming Upcoming Schedule Next regular meeting – Sunday, July 18, 2010, 12:15 p.m. in the Parlor (Discussion of scheduling conflicts with other scheduled church events.) Group Membership Jim Grecni reported that the fee for membership in the Ohio Environmental Council is $75. Carolyn Waltzer moved that GS become a member. Jesse Hyde seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Nursery Shower donation Adeline Bailey suggested that GS donate the Eco House to the upcoming Nursery Shower. The idea was approved by consensus. Family Camping Trip Debra Miller says the date is set for July 23-24 and the location will be Rev. Kat and LeRoy’s farm near Lowell. Some of the activities planned include kayaking and lessons (Jim Grecni and Debra Miller), canoes (Roger Kalter), fishing (Sam Hyde, LeRoy McCarty, Mike Bailey), S’mores (Jesse Hyde); edible plant nature walk (Jesse Hyde, Brad Bond), UU Olympics (Amy Mitchell), scavenger hunt (Sara Lamb), campfire (Leroy McCarty). Debra says there will need to be some coordination for food and drinking water, a setup for a wash station, first aid, set up and clean up crews and more “cool” activities. Diana Bungard will help publicize the event through the newsletter. Debra will place weekly announcements in the order of service and also make announcements. Service Auction Gary Hamilton has donated an additional bag with tools; Debra will hold the bags for the auction. Jim Grecni delivered questions from the Committee on Ministries regarding cooperation among committees of the congregation, asking: What benefit does GS gain from connecting the Harvest Dinner with the auction? Is there also benefit to the Auction committee? Most immediate responses were that it was beneficial to both in exposure to the wider community, and saved on rental fees for use of space as well as relieving the Auction committee of planning for food. GS will give the questions further consideration. 40-40-40 Carolyn Waltzer asked if the wrap-up for the program. Mike reported that Rev. Kat led a sharing of experiences wrap-up session at the following the concluding Sunday . Recycle Information Brad Bond reported that there are changes at the Marietta Recycling Center. Due to problems with the company that transports papers, in the future cardboard, newspapers, and office paper will all go in a roll-off, to be sorted by the recycling company. Brad also said that plastics accepted for recycling are limited to numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5.
