  • Page 50: “What Obama Should Have Said to BP” -- “Barack Obama’s demand, in his June 15 speech, that the former British Petroleum Company create an escrow account, to guarantee the funds that will be needed to deal with the consequences of the continuing catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, should have been made weeks ago, and should surely have been framed more strongly than it was.”   This essay is available at this link:  http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2010/jul/15/what-obama-should-have-said-bp/
  • Page 40:  “A Bold New Bible” -- This essay is based upon the book “The Restored New Testament: A New Translation with Commentary, Including the Gnostic Gospels Thomas, Mary, and Judas.”   This essay is available at this link:  http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2010/jul/15/bold-new-bible/
  • Page 35:  “Why We Must Bring Back the Wolf” – “Caroline Fraser’s book Rewilding the World is a call to retrofit more than a century of nature conservation in the United States and around the world.”     This essay is available at this link: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2010/jul/15/why-we-must-bring-back-wolf/

BRIDGES schedule

(Religious Explorations for adults will not be meeting this summer.)

A series of special summer intergenerational RE programs is being planned for the last Sunday in June, and for Sundays in July and August.

This week:  “Tour of Belpre Historical Society”  The youth have toured Marietta’s historic cemetery and toured pre-civil-war Henderson Hall.  Now, the youth are invited to come along for a visit to the Belpre Historical Museum.  Adults are welcome to join the youth on this field trip.  We are asking for those coming to pack a sack lunch for a picnic in the park followed by a tour of the museum.  The museum staff have arranged a special presentation local historian, Henry Burke, to share his stories and artifacts about the Underground Railroad history of our area.  Although not required, we would ask that folks let Robin Bozian know who is coming so we will have transportation needs covered.

11:00am  Summer Service in the Fellowship Hall  -   Wisdom from the World's Religions - John Maddox, Lay Speaker
